Environmental Improvements and resurfacing in the Firs and Firs Field

The Firs has taken the brunt of traffic during the Mines 'emergency works', but with the full stabilisation scheme now set to start in August and the new entrance from North Road completed, relief is in sight.
The agreed environmental works in the Firs, will start later this year. Cllr Roger Symonds has managed to get the Council to agree to resurface the road at the same time.
Removal of the satellite compound in the north west corner of Firs Field, removal of the road inside the Field and restoration of the
grass should also be done later in the year.
The Mines Project Team has also promised that the area used for gravel storage in the south west corner of Firs Field will be restored and fences removed so that once again this area can used by residents.
Most of Firs Field will be out of use to the community for the next 3 years, but the Friends of Firs Field (FoFFs), a residents group, set up last year to safeguard the Field for the community in the future, is hoping that more people will join the association to actively help in deciding what is needed in the Field after the stabilisation. The Association is Chaired by local GP Andrew Smith, the secretary is David Morris and membership forms can be obtained by telephoning or emailing Cherry Beath or Cllr Roger Symonds.
